Job Description

Position: Gradesman / Grade Checker

Location: Lower Mainland

Job type: Full time, Permanent

Start Date: As soon as possible

Wage: $32.00 - $40.00 per hour, based on experience

Responsibilities:

• Read and interpret construction drawings, grading plans, and elevations

• Establish and verify grades, elevations, benchmarks, and layout points

• Utilize laser levels and other grade-checking equipment to ensure accuracy

• Work closely with excavator operators to maintain proper excavation depths and grades

• Check elevations for foundations, footings, trenches, and underground services

• Assist with layout and grading for site preparation, backfilling, and civil works

• Identify and communicate discrepancies between drawings and actual site conditions

• Ensure excavation and grading activities meet project specifications and tolerances

• Assist with general site activities as required

• Actively participate in daily and weekly crew meetings

Qualifications and Skills:

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in excavation, grading, or civil construction

• Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings and elevations

• Experience using laser levels and grade-checking equipment

• Understanding of excavation methods, underground servicing, and site grading

• Ability to work independently and effectively alongside heavy equipment operators

• Monitor and eliminate safety risks associated with excavation work

• Possession of a valid driver's license

• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

• Strong verbal communication skills and a proactive, ready-to-work attitude

• Experience with GPS machine control and survey equipment considered an asset
